Wonder Woman!!!!

For those of you that don’t know, I am a Wonder Woman fan. She is my favorite superhero. Not only is she a woman who kicks behind, but her name is Diana. Anyway, I’ve been searching for a Wonder Woman lunchbox. Yes, I actually carry a lunchbox. I have not been able to find one, and I’ve been looking for awhile. A couple of days ago I got a call from Linh, a friend from college and fellow professor at the college. She asks me if I’m still looking for a Wonder Woman lunchbox. Of course I tell her yes, well more like squeal it as I ask her if she found one. She found one!!!! So, here is a picture of my new lunchbox. I’m so excited!!!

An Opportunity

Today is my first full day of classes; a full day consisting of three labs. I've finished up two labs and have one more to go, it starts in about 45 minutes. So far, I have had a really great day. I enjoy being back on campus and my students so far have been really nice and respectful. In my morning lab a couple of students asked me about my gray bracelet. So, I got a chance to share my faith with my lab this morning. That was awesome. One of the students said, "Oh, I thought the word servant meant that you serve your students." I told him I serve Christ by serving my students, that I'm there for them to help them understand, to answer questions, and to make physics easier for them. He made a deep thought face and then went back to calculations. I saw a couple of the students write down the verse to look up and a couple of students asked me what church I attend. So, now they know there's an open door and they can talk to me. That's always exciting to me; to know that I can be there for a student intellectually and possibly spiritually.

Insert Some Random Clever Title

I haven’t really been blogging lately. I’ve wanted to blog but haven’t really had anything to type. Life has been kind of blah lately; at least from my perspective. Not a bad blah, but a good blah (if there is such a thing). Nothing exciting, nothing traumatic, just day to day regular stuff.

Tonight was Monday Night Dinner, or MND, at the May’s. I have never been to MND before so it was a new experience for me. It was an awesome night of good food and good fellowship. A great big THANK YOU to Brandi for opening up her house to all of us noise makers. Then I got to come home and unpack some more. I think I’ve finally got my desk organized, which means I can bring in some more boxes to unpack. My goal is to be totally unpacked and organized by Saturday, the end of the day at least.

Moving Day - Part 2

Ok, so yesterday was officially moving day. I got the rest of my stuff moved, well almost all of it. I have my hurricane lamps still in Moreno Valley and my laundry basket, but everything else is here in Riverside. YEA!!!!! Needless to say, my room is an absolute disaster area right now, but it is slowly coming together. The one thing I didn’t do is take a before and after picture. Ok, call me crazy, but I like to take a picture of the room empty with nothing in it, then take a picture with all of the furniture in it. When I need to I pull it out and remember that yes, miracle can occur; I’m always amazed at how I fit stuff into a room.

Moving Day - Part 1

I'm moving!!!!!! I'm moving out of the armpit they call Moreno Valley to Riverside. Ok, so Riverside isn't that much better, but I like it much better. And Moreno Valley is just not close to anything. I started moving today, I got one dresser, one bookshelf, and my clothes moved today. Only three more bookshelfs and another dresser to move. I'm very excited!!!!! Just had to share with y'all.

Life Gives You Scars

I had to post this. I got this in my email today and it just hit home.

Some years ago, on a hot summer day in south Florida, a little boy decided to go for a swim in the old swimming hole behind his house. In a hurry to dive into the cool water, he ran out the back door, leaving behind shoes, socks, and shirt as he went. He flew into the water, not realizing that as he swam toward the middle of the lake, an alligator was swimming toward the shore.

His father, working in the yard, saw the two as they got closer and closer together. In utter fear, he ran toward the water, yelling to his son as loudly as he could.

Hearing his voice, the little boy became alarmed and made a U-turn to swim to his father. It was too late. Just as he reached his father, the alligator reached him.

From the dock, the father grabbed his little boy by the arms just as the alligator snatched his legs. That began an incredible tug-of-war between the two. The alligator was much stronger th an the father, but the father was much too passionate to let go.

A farmer happened to drive by, heard his screams, raced from his truck, took aim and shot the alligator.

Remarkably, after weeks and weeks in the hospital, the little boy survived. His legs were extremely scarred by the vicious attack of the animal. And, on his arms, were deep scratches where his father's fingernails dug into his flesh in his effort to hang on to the son he loved.

The newspaper reporter who interviewed the boy after the trauma, asked if he would show him his scars. The boy lifted his pant legs. And then, with obvious pride, he said to the reporter, "But look at my arms. I have great scars on my arms, too. I have them because my Dad wouldn't let go."

You and I can identify with that little boy. We have scars, too. No, not from an alligator, but the scars of a painful past. Some of those scars are unsightly and have caused us deep regret. But, some wounds, my friend, are because God has refused to let go. In the midst of your struggle, He's been there holding on to you.

The Scripture teaches that God loves you. You are a child of God. He wants to protect you and provide for you in every way But sometimes we foolishly wade into dangerous situations, not knowing what lies ahead. The swimming hole of life is filled with peril - and we forget that the enemy is waiting to attack. That's when the tug-of-war begins - and if you have the scars of His love on your arms, be very, very grateful. He did not and will not ever let you go.

What did I do?!?!?!?!!

I really do not like shopping. I’m one of those people that typically walk the aisles and if nothing catches my eye I don’t stop, I just keep on going. I know what I want when I do go and am looking for something specific. There are those very special occasions when someone can talk me into going shopping with them. Well, I went shopping today. Not only did I go shopping, I went to Ontario Mills to go shopping; on a Saturday. We were there entirely too long, I think almost six hours. I think it was the kids; they were just so darn cute. By the kids I mean my kids, Justin and Kaelynne. They both are just too darn cute for words
So I spent the day with Sandy and the kids shopping. Sandy’s impulse buy was a Halloween costume for George. Apparently he’s going to be a bumblebee. My impulse buy was a pair of pink boots. Sandy says they’re raspberry wine colored, but that’s still pink in my mind. I still can’t believe that I got pink boots. Per Sandy I have to wear them to church tomorrow, so keep an eye out for them.

Book Titles

For those of you who may not know (which you probably all do), I work at Borders. I am on the inventory team which means I'm one of those people in the back who unbox books and put them on the shelves. I have seen some rather amusing titles and I decided today that I should start telling people about them. All those book titles that have us rolling on the floor in laughter because someone actually titled their book that. Anyway, this is my first book title blog.

Never Have Your Dog Stuffed (Alan Alda's biography)

Not Tonight Darling, I'm Knitting (we laughed for a good 10 to 15 minutes with this one)

Extreme Nature! (I think it was more the way I said it out loud than the book title)

I hope you got at least a little laugh, have a fantabulous day!

I'm late, I'm late, for a very important date.....

Today I woke up at 5:50 am. Some of you might be thinking, wow that’s early. But actually I was late. See, I’m supposed to be at work at 6pm. Needless to say, I was slightly late this morning. I think I finally clocked in at 6:45am, only 45 minutes late. I felt rushed the whole day because I was late getting there. I ended up staying an extra hour to make up for being late. At least when I got to work the day went well. I got 2 whole pallets sorted today. Now there are only 6 left, the 6 that came in today. I have no idea how we fit 6 pallets in the back room with the 2 that were already back there but somehow we got it all cleaned out and fit a grand total of 10 pallets in our back room with all of our sorting carts. It’s like a puzzle, making everything fit. After work I actually came home today. I don’t think I’ve been home before dark in months, it’s kinda nice vegging out and playing online.

Me?!?!?!??

Has anyone ever told you that you're an answer to prayer?

I have a friend that I eat lunch with just about every Sunday. The only exceptions being when one of us is sick or out of town. She comes over and picks me up from Pipeline, we grab something to eat, and then we sit in the gym eating our lunch and talking about whatever comes to mind. We talk about the big events in our life, we talk about the little events, we talk about our hopes for the future and our disappointments from the past. We've been doing Sunday lunches for almost a year now. That's quite a bit of talking time. Well, we're also in small group together. This past Wednesday our small group leader was talking about people being answers to prayer. Sometimes it's obvious that you were an answer to prayer and sometimes you just go, "huh?" He was giving some examples of things that have happened in his life. Basically it was a little message on making sure our hearts and minds were open to hear God's prompting in our life. Well today I'm sitting having lunch as usual with my friend. She turns to me and brings up Wednesday and asks if I want to hear her story. Of course I want to hear her story so I turn towards her to make sure she knows she has my absolute undivided attention and she tells me that it involves me. Well, that kinda floors me, but I say ok and ask her was her experience is. She told me that she was on the verge of leaving Sandals (gasp! on my part) and she prayed to God and told Him that she needed a friend; someone that she could sit and talk with and really help her find her church family. She tells me that she prayed this one Sunday while driving home. One or two weeks later I had gotten back from my trip to TN and had brought my photo album with me to church. We sat down and I was showing her my pictures and that's when we really started talking and hanging out. So, she told me I was the answer to her prayer. I had absolutely no idea what to say, I was floored. I was completly shocked, for a split second I thought she was kidding. The first thing that popped out of my mouth was, "Awww, I feel all warm and fuzzy inside." Ok, not the most brillant thing to say, but not the worst either. She just laughed at me, knowing my tendency towards blonde moments.

So that was my shocking moment of the day, maybe more like the shocking moment of the year.

Smoothies and Hugs

Yesterday was a totally awesome day. First off, I got to sleep in, until like 1pm. Yes, I know incredibly late, but considering I didn't go to bed until about 3am I actually got a full nights sleep which is amazing for me. Then I got to lounge around the house for a bit, then I remembered, smoothie and hugs party at Brandi's. Brandi was amazingly wonderful, she opened up her house to whoever wanted to come for a smoothie and hug. Me being the person who LOVES hugs, just ask any of my Pipeline kids, I of course felt the incredible need to go. I had a blast!
I got to just hang out and talk with friends from church and we played DDR. Above is a picture of us girls hanging out and talking. Beky, Michelle, Sadie, Kim, and myself. I had never played DDR before, I did much better than I thought I would, but definitly not a pro yet. They luckily did not snap a photo of me playing, Kim and Sadie got the brunt of the picture taking.
Thanx to Brandi for an awesome afternoon of smoothies, hugs, and hang out time. Thanx to Daniel from Snap Photography for the pics posted above. Thanx to everyone else for a wonderful afternoon of fun and laughter. Hugs to all!

too much fun

Tonight was our first Pipeline Party Time, well technically it was last night since it is now Saturday morning. I was almost dreading going, to be honest, but of course I had a blast once I got there. It was a fun time to just hang out with the kids and play around.

Leah was her usual goofball self, she definitly takes after her father.

The kids drew on the board and hung out and talked, then we had a scavenger hunt (my team won) then we watched Toy Story II.

After Pipeline Party Time us big kids went out to Red Lobster for all you can eat shrimp. It was yummy, yummy in my tummy; I love shrimp. We just sat and ate and talked and laughed and ate some more and talked some more and laughed some more. I love hanging out with Pipeline people; I always have a blast and there’s always lots of laughter.

Well, it’s like 1:30 in the morning and I’ve been up for almost 24 hours straight, I think I might try sleeping now.

Proverbs 31

For those of you who may not know, Proverbs 31 is my life verse. Ok, so it’s not really a verse, it’s a whole chapter, but it is what I am trying to achieve. Well, the other day I say a guy wearing a shirt that said “Searching for a Proverbs 31 wife”. It made me think. Does he know what he’s searching for? Does he know what that means for him? I’ve heard guys talk about wanting a Proverbs 31 wife, but they don’t know what that entails for them. To those who are given much, much will be required. The man is supposed to be the head of the household, the spiritual leader. The Proverbs 31 man is a leader, not just for his household, but for others in the community. Just a random thought.

Results Are In

I just got back from my doctor’s appointment. I have ovarian cysts on both ovaries. So, I have to go on birth control. I’m going to be on it for 4 months and then I’ll go back into the doctor and see how the birth control is affecting me and what it’s doing to my body. If it seems to be working then I’ll stay on it for a full year. I have no idea what will happen at the end of the year, I’m assuming I’ll go back in and we’ll see if the cysts have disappeared or not but I’m not sure. So, that is what is going on. I’ll be doing some more waiting, but at least I’ll be doing something while waiting to try and fix it.

Amazing, Incredibly, Awesome Day

Today was so incredibly hectic. First off I could not sleep last night, I think it was finally 3:30 in the morning when I fell asleep, then my alarm went off at 5:30, I reset it for 6 and slept and extra half hour. So then I’m at Pipeline by about 7:15 or so to help set up, no big deal I do that every week. What was so different about Pipeline this week is brilliant person that I am (that was sarcastic by the way) decided to move our motions practices from Wednesday evenings to Sunday mornings. So kids that attend the 9am service show up at 8am for practice and kids that attend the 11am service show up at 10am for practice. If you have never seen a Pipeline worship service I urge you to check it out, it is completely awesome and so much fun, and requires so much energy for those of us on stage, and I absolutely love it! That being said, motions practice requires tons of energy as well. We go through each song at least two times, usually three to make sure that everyone has the motions down. So I practice from 8 to 9 (set 1) then am on stage from 9 to 9:30 dancing to my little hearts content jumping for almost a full 30 minutes to help keep the kids in the audience engaged (set 2). I get about 30 minutes to catch my breath and then the 10am practice starts and we practice until about 11 (set 3) then I’m on stage dancing again, this time singing as well trying to stay in tune while jumping and being winded from no time to catch my breath (set 4). So, needless to say when I moved practices to Sunday I had not thought about the whole 4 sets every Sunday morning. Then of course I had a class during island time, I got the second graders (my previous first graders that I haven’t hung out with in forever) so that was awesome. After Pipeline today Sam and I had lunch and then headed out to Highland because my step-dad got baptized for the first time today YEAAAAA and my mom was re-baptized. It was awesome to be there for that. I am so happy I have a camera phone now, I was able to take pictures. Then of course there was church this evening. I don’t know that I really wanted to be there at first, but then I started seeing my wonderful church family and it was all good. And as exhausted as I was I found some energy and danced to my hearts content with little Sadie, we even did some Pipeline motions to No One Like You. Pictures of this afternoon follow.

Sorry, for the incredibly long post but it’s been an incredibly full day, that was just totally awesome. I just feel so blessed right now. I have so many people in my life that care for me, I don’t want for anything, I have an awesome church that challenges me every week in some way to become more Christ-like, and an awesome church family that is there for me to divide my sorrows and multiply the joys. So thank you to all who are there for me, to offer an encouraging word or just to give me a hug, you are all amazing!

This is Sam at lunch, he wasn't too happy with me for taking a picture of him. This is my mom (Fay) and Carle (my step-dad), the lady on the right is Wendy, a friend of theirs from their church.
This is Carle being prayed for before his baptizism.
He got dunked! YEAAAAA!!This is my mom during prayer. Unfortunatly my phone didn't catch her when she got dunked.

There's No Place Like Home...

Well, I'm back home. I have had an interesting couple of days. Last night I went to a women's dinner/prayer meeting with mom. At first I felt kinda weird, I was the youngest person there. The person who's house it was at did a little sermon. Her sermon was titled, "When God Speaks, Please Listen". There were some good points that I needed to hear, they tied in with what I've been learning lately. After the talk we had prayer. It was prayer like at the church I went to as a child, laying on of hands, people being overcome by the spirit. The kind of prayer that people see and freak out and think people are totally faking it. The pastors wife asked me if she could pray for me. I don't know how much my mom has told her about me, but there was some stuff that she was praying about that I know my mom hasn't told her because I haven't told my mom.

I spent the day today with my parents. We went out to lunch, then we went to the verizon store and I upgraded my cell phone. Then it was off to Berean where we looked around for awhile. We're such a strange family we hang out in bookstores for fun. I've spent the evening catching up on email and blogs that I haven't read in ages. I saw on Los' blog that I missed blog day, so I'll have to catch up on that as well.
